Abandon by Meg Cabot

Abandon by Meg Cabot

I first discovered Meg Cabot's book shortly after the first Princess Diaries (starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway) movie came out. My mother walked in and saw me watching it for the millionth time and said to me "You know that's a book right?" At the time I hated reading, but that statement was all it took for me to go running to the library and take out the book. I fell madly in love with them. I soon discovered that not only did she write the Princess Diaries books, but she also used a pseudoname, Jenny Carroll to write The Mediator Series and the 1-800 Missing Series (re-released under the name Meg Cabot). I read every single one of the books almost immediately and counted the days until new books were published. I was ecstatic when 1-800 Missing was turned into a Lifetime TV show staring, Caterina Scorsone (yes the very same person who is currently Derek Shepherd's little sister, Amelia on Private Practice, @caterinatweets on Twitter ), and was practically devastated when it did not return for another season back in 2007.

As I got older I began reading her Adult books including the "Boy" books and one of my favorite series, the Heather Wells books. Counting the days until Meg's new books are published is something I still do (side note: Overbite comes out in 4 months). Being such a big fan I am absolutely thrilled to get an advanced reader copy of her newest book Abandon (book 1 of 3) to review.

Abandon is a supernatural book in which Pierce has an accident and dies . In the underworld she finds a man she has met one time before at the cemetery the day of her grandfather's funeral. Once she is able to explain how she knows him he takes her to what we can assume is his house in the underworld. He gives an extremely fancy necklace that is supposed to protect her from evil. It is after that the man, John has to explain that she is dead. Pierce panics and escapes the underworld and comes back to life. But life as she knew it was over. Her best friend ditched her when she promised she would protect her from all evil, only to later die herself causing Pierce to have an "incident" at school with a teacher that gets her thrown out.

Her mother moves her back to where she grew up to be with family and to a new school that can handle her "special needs." She decides that it is time to become a new person. It is back in her mothers home town that she discovers more about who John is and what he does. I do not want to ruin the book for anyone so you'll just have to read it to find out more.

This story is an update of Greek Mythology and it instantly grabbed me. Every mystery kept me wanting more! It was a fantastic read and I hope that everyone buys it!

Meg, My mother thanks you for getting me interested in reading. I will always look forward to your books. Please keep writing!

Abandon will be released on April 26, 2011
Overbite, sequel to Insatiable will be released on July 5, 2011.
